Vegan Hemp Seed Ranch Dressing or Dip

Vegan Hemp Seed Ranch Dressing or Dip

A super healthy, high-protein, dairy-free spin on Ranch dressing that’s tangy, herby and totally delicious!

Do you love Ranch Dressing? To be honest, Ranch was never a dressing I leaned towards, mostly because of the ingredients it’s made of: Buttermilk, skim milk, egg yolks, sugar, sour cream…it all gave me a big stomach ache! That was until I created my own Vegan Ranch Dressing Recipe! This salad dressing is a super healthy spin on traditional Ranch Dressing that’s DAIRY-FREE, SUGAR-FREE and High in PROTEIN!

Served as a Dip – the perfect Snack!

I’ve been making this dressing recipe for years and finally decided to give it it’s own post. When cooking for personal chef clients, I’ll typically serve this as a dip with flaxseed crackers or sliced vegetables like carrots, cucumber, jicima or sugar snap peas! It’s rich and satisfying, making it the perfect mid-day snack. And the most obvious way to serve it is as a salad dressing. Drizzle it over some crisp, watery romaine, crunchy cucumbers and sweet cherry tomatoes for a delicious and healthy salad!

Hemp Seeds at the base

Hemp seeds make the base of this dressing giving it a higher protein nutritional profile than your average Ranch. If you aren’t familiar with hemp seeds, they’re the seeds of the hemp plant. Although cannabis comes from the same plant, don’t worry…hemp seeds wont get you high! They’re totally safe to eat and incredibly healthy for you too. I really love hemp seeds and hemp protein powder for strict vegans in particular since hemp is high in protein and amino acids, containing all 20!! Hemp seeds are also beneficial for brain and heart health and in balancing hormones.

How to use hemp seeds

I love adding a couple Tablespoons of hemp seeds to smoothies, granola or sprinkling them on salads for they’re subtle nutty flavor. When blended these little seeds get extremely soft and creamy as you’ll see in this recipe. You can also add hemp seeds to oatmeal, granola or sprinkled over rice.

How to serve Vegan Ranch Dressing or Dip:

Like I’ve already mentioned, I love serving this as a dip with sliced, raw veggies, but it also works as a dressing on your favorite chopped salad. Another fun way to serve this is as a dip with our Paleo Crispy Cauliflower, kind of like a spin on buffalo wings and Ranch dip 🙂

PRO TIPS:

Always wash your hemp seeds before using since they are normally very dust and dirty. To do this place them in an extremely fine mesh strainer and rinse under your faucet using cool water. Rinse until water runs clear.

Do NOT add herbs to the blender until the end. Make sure your dip is smooth and creamy and tasting good before adding in your fresh herbs. Adding the fresh herbs at the start will give you a green dip!

Store unused hemp seeds in an airtight container with a fitted lid in a fridge or freezer 🙂
